Tennis coaching in Australia
Australia has one of the strongest club and pathway tennis systems in the world, with busy programs in every major city. Roles on the TNA board cover Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Adelaide — from a long-term coaching role in Perth and head-professional positions leading a coaching team to player pathway coaches working with private and group players.
Salaries
The live roles pay AUD 60–65 an hour with 30–35 guaranteed hours a week for the Perth coaching role, up to AUD 75,000 a year for player pathway coaches and AUD 90,000–130,000 a year for head tennis professionals. Australian roles are quoted in Australian dollars, either as annual salaries or as hourly rates with guaranteed weekly hours. Head-professional roles pay the most because they include leading coaches and growing programs.
Visas for international coaches
Coaches who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents need a visa with work rights. For full-time roles the usual route is an employer-sponsored skilled visa, and eligibility depends on the occupation, your experience and your English level. Younger coaches from eligible countries sometimes start on a Working Holiday visa. The Perth role offers visa sponsorship, plus six weeks’ free accommodation, a company car and relocation support. What Australian employers look for
- Tennis Australia coaching qualifications, or an equivalent recognised international qualification
- A Working with Children Check for the state you work in — needed to coach juniors
- A strong playing level — the Perth role asks for UTR 8+
- At least three years of coaching experience for the 2027 roles, including full-time coaching
- For head-professional roles, program leadership: managing coaches, growing participation and running events, tournaments and holiday programs
