What tennis coaching jobs in China look like
Most roles are with private tennis academies and clubs in major cities — right now that means Wuhan, Shenzhen, Haikou, Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Jiangsu. Coaches mainly work with children and junior players, from beginners to competitive U12–U16 squads, and some academies run high-performance groups for ranked juniors and professionals.
Workload is measured in coaching hours or sessions per month, and contracts normally run for a year with the option to renew. Each role on the board lists its hours.
Salaries and packages
Monthly pay on the 24 live roles runs from about $2,000 to $9,000 (converted to USD). Many academies add accommodation or a housing allowance, return flights and the work visa on top of salary — 14 of the 24 China roles on the board include accommodation. Some salaries are quoted after tax, so always confirm whether a figure is gross or net.
Visas and paperwork for foreign coaches
To coach legally in China you need a work permit and a Z (work) visa, which becomes a residence permit after you arrive. The employer applies for the work permit and sends you the documents for the visa application.
- Degree and experience: work permits usually require a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience. Players and coaches with an exceptional professional record can sometimes qualify on that record instead.
- Criminal-record certificate from your home country, normally apostilled or legalised.
- Medical check, done before travel or after arrival.
- Coaching certificates (ITF-recognised federation, PTR, USPTA or RPT) and reference letters.
Expect the process to take several weeks to a few months; requirements vary by city.
