Why California Lutheran University
Founded in 1959, Cal Lutheran is a private university in Thousand Oaks, Southern California — between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. It is small enough to know you: around 2,160 undergraduates, an average class size of 14 and 45 majors, with students from 40 states and 67 countries.
Both tennis teams — the Kingsmen and the Regals — compete in NCAA Division III’s Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and train at the Ron and Sue Poulson Tennis Center on campus. Cal Lutheran fields 22 varsity teams in total, 11 for men and 11 for women.
How funding works in Division III
NCAA Division III schools do not award athletic scholarships. Players are funded the same way as every strong student — through merit scholarships and financial aid — and at Cal Lutheran that support is substantial:
- Admission Merit Scholarship: $15,000–$33,000 for first-year students, with automatic consideration when you are admitted
- Presidential Scholarship: up to full tuition for top-tier applicants who apply by the 15 November Early Action deadline
- Global Scholars Program: up to $30,000 for international first-year students from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Latin America — renewable
- Need-based grants and aid on top, confirmed individually
